We find ourselves living in a society where the majority of pedestrians are walking down the street looking down at their phones, not paying attention to their surroundings and ultimately putting themselves in danger. The outdoor directional speaker grabs the pedestrians attention by focusing sound in targeted small areas being apx. 1m squared. Outside of the area no sound from the speakers can be heard, therefore giving an effect where the user is stepping into a different atmosphere from their surroundings. The sounds played will predominantly be songs, however leading up to and when it is time to cross the sound stops telling the user it is time to cross. These speakers are situated along Queen street and lead up to the Victoria Street and Queen street intersection which is the busiest intersection in New Zealand.
